French Studies

Welcome

French Studies

The UT Libraries acquire material in multiple languages and all formats to support language learning and degree programs in French Linguistics, French Studies and the Romance Linguistics Portfolio Program within the Department of French & Italian. A number of departments within the Colleges of Liberal Arts and Fine Arts also require French material for advanced degrees. As a result, strengths of the collection include Francophone literature in Africa and Latin America/Caribbean, literary history, film, linguistics, and the Medieval/Renaissance periods. Material in the Perry-Castañeda Library, the Fine Arts Library and Benson Latin American Collection is complemented by the French Collections in the Harry Ransom Center, including the Artinian collection of literary manuscripts and the Carlton Lake Collection, as well as several collections in the Blanton Museum of Art. A core collection of bandes dessinées in French and in translation supports emerging campus interest in graphic novels and comics.

The French collection is most closely aligned with the Department of French & Italian, the Center for European Studies, and the France-University of Texas Institute.
