Reference Tools

Looking for something like Wikipedia but scholarly and appropriate for an academic assignment? Try these vetted, edited collections of scholarly encyclopedias, biographies, dictionaries, and bibliographies.

Find Books

You can search for books with these two tools:

  • The Library Catalog: Search for books and ebooks that UT owns.
Use the catalog when you know exactly what book you want and you want to get it quickly.
  • The Articles & More Search: Search for books, scholarly articles, news articles, and websites all at once.
Use the Articles & More Search when you're starting a research project and want to get a bird's eye view of what's available on your topic.

Questions about the UT Libraries' borrowing policies (including putting holds on books)? Find info on loan periods, holds, reserves, and more.

Not sure how to locate a book in the stacks? Get step-by-steps instructions.
