BME 197E - Professional Responsibilities

Information to help with understanding the basics of intellectual property, avoiding plagiarism, and managing bibliographic references.

Some Additional Thoughts on Being an Ethical Author

Some Miscellaneous Tips

Librarians see some practices we like to mention and for which we have advice:

  • Don't worry about having too many notes or too many entries in a bibliography.  Give credit as needed.
  • A short citation is not a better citation; the point is to help others get the information they need so that they can find the same source.
  • If you haven't seen a work but feel you should cite it, cite what you've seen and don't pretend to have viewed an unfound item.
