We encourage claiming an ID through the ORCID program. This identifier allows you to link together all your work, including publications and grant applications, and allows others to identify you. It is handy to have the ID at the beginning of your career. Some publishers, including Wiley, Springer/Nature, IEEE, and Science, now require that an author have an ORCID ID. There is no charge to obtain an ID and no charge to participate in the program.
