Blog Post #1 assignment

Instructions

Step 1:

  • Find your editorial in Dallas Morning News Newspaper Archive Database
  • Contact Elise if you cannot find your editorial, but be persistent. We have double checked that all cartoons and accompanying editorials are available within the Dallas Morning News database, so it’s your responsibility to do the research.

Step 2

Create the first draft of your blog post by following these directions. Your post must include:

  • Scanned image of cartoon, already uploaded to the blog. Limit the media library to items uploaded in Feb. 2018. You will need to title them.
  • Enter metadata, such as tags (describing major themes, people, places, things depicted) and alternative text (alt-text) for your image
  • At least 3-4 pages of text that places your political cartoon in context. Do this by:
    • Finding, reading, and synthesizing 2-3 encyclopedia articles (see background info suggestions on left tab)
    • Finding, reading, and synthesizing 1-2 contemporary news sources to place your topic and contemporary political cartoon in context (see news source suggestions on left tab)
    • Finding, reading, and synthesizing 1-3 historical newspaper articles other than the Dallas Morning News editorial (see historical newspaper suggestions to the left)
  • Citations/references for articles consulted
    • In your citations, if you reference and online article (either on the open web or from within a library database, please insert the link back to article that you reference).

Step 3: Continue to edit and refine your blog post draft. You can find directions on how to edit your blog post draft on a tab to the left.

Step 4: Make sure your blog post is organized in the correct semester for your course (Spring 2018).
