Gems at the UT Libraries

Nettie Lee Benson Latin American Collection

Gems Options

  • Showing of archival materials– if your signature course is relevant to archival materials held at the Benson Latin American Collection, we can arrange a viewing of a selection of those materials led by one of our rare books and manuscripts staff.
  • Instruction in using the archive – If your students will be doing archival research, we can provide instruction in how to use archival materials
  • Consultation in creating an archival assignment – if you would like to integrate archival research into your syllabus, we can help craft an effective assignment.
  • Curator-led tour of current exhibitions at the Benson Latin American Collection
  • Instruction session – we can provide instruction on how to use materials from our collection if your students have a research assignment related to Latin America or U.S. Latin@s that requires non-primary resources (please note that this is not a substitution for the information literacy portion of the signature course curriculum)
  • Any combination of the above

Please note: We can do sessions only during your normal class hours, and due to staffing we are limited in the number of sections we can accommodate for larger classes. Please submit your request at least two weeks in advance, along with your syllabus and relevant class assignments to blac@lib.utexas.edu.
