Omeka

Omeka has two versions:

 

Omeka.net- freemium

Omeka Classic (formerly Omeka.org)- open source, but you need to pay for hosting and install it yourself, more customizable than Omeka.net

Omeka S- open source, requires hosting, designed for institutions that need multiple sites

Blogging and Websites

University Blog Service- free Wordpress sites for current UT staff, faculty, and students

 

Wordpress.com- Pre-installed and hosted wordpress sites. Has free and paid versions.

 

Wordpress.org- open source version of Wordpress, you provide your own hosting

 

Tumblr.com- not as high powered or customizable as Wordpress, but has a shorter learning curve, example: http://utlsocialjustice.tumblr.com/

 

GitHub Pages- more of a learning curve (you need to learn GitHub and basic HTML), but a free, highly customizable option for creating websites

 

Google Sites- Create quick, simple webpages. 

 

Wix- Create a free website or upgrade to a paid plan to customize your domain and remove ads.

Affordable web hosting that allows you to claim a domain and install Wordpress, Drupal, Omeka, and more.
