Finding Geoscience Series

How to Find a Geoscience Series

Finding a specific report or issue for a series can be tricky. Some reports can be found by individual titles; other reports can only be found by series titles. You may need to try a variety of search techniques in the library catalog to find what you are looking for.

Before you start looking, ask yourself:

  • What is the series title?
  • What is the report number?
  • Do you know the title and author?

Hint: If you need more information, try looking in a database such as GeoRef.

There are pages throughout this research guide that contain information to help you more easily find specific reports or issues.

If we provide:

  • The call number, try the Library of Congress call number search in the library catalog.
  • An individual title or author, try a keyword, title, or author search in the library catalog. (Hint: If you find a catalog record that matches, there should be a series and report number traced on the record. By following the series tracing link, you can find other reports in a chronological list.)
  • The series title, try a keyword or title search in the library catalog. (Hint: For long running series, look for the "Continues" and "Continued" by links in the series record to go to the previous or later series titles.)
