DRM-free or Digital Rights Management free materials are library-owned electronic materials that do not restrict the number of users that can access the resource at once, or limit the options for retaining access to the downloaded version of the material. This type of material can be ideal for course use because the students will not need to pay any additional fees to access these resources and with no limitations on the number of users at one time, each student can access them electronically when they need it.
Not all ebooks are available for the library to purchase DRM-free, and particularly some of the common titles published as textbooks may not be. This is primarily due to the publishers not extending the option to libraries. But some publishers and some books do have DRM-free options. The library usually opts for DRM-free versions of ebooks when we can, but I am also happy to look into purchasing any course-related material on request.
