Access to newspapers here at UTL

Below, you will see a lot of options for accessing news. This is a typical scenario in a research library wherein access to publications is spread across many tools. As such, read the below descriptions carefully and ask me if you are missing something.

The reasons that access to newspapers is difficult at libraries are complex and have to do mostly with the advertising revenue upon which news sources rely. If you find something on the Web and hit a paywall, that's a good time to use chat to see if we can provide access.

Alt-Press Watch
Newspapers, magazines and journals of the alternative and independent press in America. Ecology and the environment, grassroots organizing, labor, indigenous peoples, and public policy.
American Prison Newspapers (APN)
Over 450 prison newspapers have been published from U.S. prisons, and some are still published today. American Prison Newspapers will bring together hundreds of these periodicals from across the country into one collection that will represent penal institutions of all kinds, with special attention paid to women's-only institutions.

Newspapers, magazines and journals of the ethnic, minority and native press in America

Independent Voices
Alternative press newspapers, magazines and journals, drawn from the special collections of participating libraries. These periodicals were produced by feminists, dissident GIs, campus radicals, Native Americans, anti-war activists, Black Power advocates, Hispanics, LGBT activists, the extreme right-wing press and alternative literary magazines during the latter half of the 20th century.
Latin American Newsstand
Updated daily. Newspapers from Puerto Rico and 11 Latin American countries with complete articles in ASCII format. Includes papers from Mexico, Argentina, and Brazil. Content is in Spanish and Portuguese.
