Step 1: Use a citation manager

What a citation manager does

Research is so hard. A literature review is so hard. A citation manager is never anything but a really good idea.

Before you start your review, sign up for an account - many tools are free. Use our guide to citation managers for guidance. We post recorded workshops for our tools on this page as well.

A citation manager allows you to:

  • Using a browser plugin, import citations and documents alongside searches in databases and on the web - so you never duplicate effort
  • Create folders and subfolders to be ultra organized
  • Share your library with others to collaborate
  • Annotate records with notes relevant to you
  • Use as support literature and systematic reviews
