Planning for Sustainability

Software is constantly changing, it is frequently updated and can sometimes be discontinued or abandoned. Some points to consider when planning your project include:

How long do you plan to maintain your site?
Do you have a recurring budget to cover software subscription or hosting costs?
Are there parts of your project that could be reused by others? (ex. a collection of images or metadata)
Is there a scholarly component to your site that is important to maintain?
If it's not your site to maintain forever, is there someone else who will take it over?

The Socio-Technical Sustainability Roadmap (the “Roadmap” or the STSR) is a module-based workshop intended to help you and your team approach the seemingly daunting task of sustaining your web-based, user-facing, digital humanities project over time.
Texas ScholarWorks
Texas ScholarWorks was established to provide open, online access to the products of the University's research and scholarship, to preserve these works for future generations, to promote new models of scholarly communication, and to help deepen community understanding of the value of higher education. You may consider whether there are parts of your digital project that are suitable for depositing there.
Texas Data Repository
The University of Texas at Austin Dataverse Collection in the Texas Data Repository serves as a platform for publishing and archiving the University's research data. It was established to help UT-Austin's research community meet data sharing requirements, to facilitate data citation, to promote collaboration, to enable reproducibility, and to encourage reuse. Your digital collection may have a data or metadata component suitable for depositing into TDR.
