Premodern China

The Chinese Text Project is an online open-access digital library that makes pre-modern Chinese texts available to readers and researchers all around the world. The site attempts to make use of the digital medium to explore new ways of interacting with these texts that are not possible in print. With over thirty thousand titles and more than five billion characters, the Chinese Text Project is also the largest database of pre-modern Chinese texts in existence.

The Chinese Rare Book Digital Collection draws from the 5,300 titles of Chinese rare books housed at the Asian Division of the Library of Congress. The initial online presentation includes about 1,000 digitized rare titles, and more will be accessible in following phases. Once complete, the digital collection will comprise nearly 2,000 titles.

Union catalogue of Chinese rare books in Japanese institutions.

Chinese Ancient Books Union Catalogue and Evidence-based Platform is a pilot project for the Shanghai Library digital humanity infrastructure. Currently it includes ancient books catalogue from more than 1400 organizations. Some scanned-images of the collections from the Shanghai Library, the University of California Berkeley East Asia Library, Harvard-Yenching Library, and the University of Macao Library can be accessed online. 作爲首個全球性古籍數字化影像檢索平臺，影像集成系統第一期已著録全球90餘個中文古籍影像數據庫中的影像數據共17萬條（約136918部又32654册）[條目列表]。系統的核心功能是對古籍版本影像的一站式獲取閲讀：使用者衹需輸入書名或作者，即可獲得相關古籍的公開影像版本列表；衹需點擊一下按鈕，即可進入相應的在綫閲讀頁面。

The archives of the Grand Secretariat currently housed at the Institute were originally kept at the Grand Secretariat Storehouse in the Ch’ing imperial palace. They were removed from the Storehouse when it underwent renovation in 1909. After the overthrow of the Ch’ing, these archives changed hands several times, and were, at one point, even sold to a paper recycling factory. Eventually, the Institute purchased them from Li Sheng-to, a book collector, in1929 thanks to the efforts of Fu Ssu-nien, the Institute’s first director.

本系統提供院藏清代宮中檔奏摺、軍機處檔摺件、檔冊、大清國史人物列傳及史館檔傳包傳稿等清代文獻之後設資料（metadata）及影像圖檔，再加上與中央研究院史語所合作建置之清代檔案人名權威等資料連結，以結構式呈現，藉以理解檔案生成之相關文獻脈絡；並因應新世代人文研究導向，以實踐人文研究新意涵，體現博物館數位典藏之重要前瞻性。
