How to find interviews...

Places to search, keywords to use (general)

Sports

Keywords to try:

  • a particular sport
  • an identity (women, queer, trans, retired, college, coach)
  • a topic or theme (fame, money, injury, role model)
  • a location (city, state, country)
  • a time period / sort by date.

Add the words interview OR profile

and limit to magazines or popular sources - interviews exist in academic journals, but most often refer to the research methodology of interviewing subjects (as in, 'in ethnographic interviews, 401 athletes were asked about their childhood experiences in sports")

Food

Keywords to try:

  • a particular cuisine, country, style, ingredient 
  • an identity (women, queer, trans, french, nigerian)
  • a topic or theme (fame, money, health, sustainability, organic, vegan)
  • a location (city, state, country)
  • a time period / sort by date.

An eyewitness

Another word for an eyewitness account is a primary source. You can find these in newspapers around the time of an event's occurrence. You can also gather stories from witnesses and collect them after the fact. Another way these can pop up is in interviews conducted in research articles (as in, we interviewed 500 students about their attitudes towards trans athletes...)

Keywords to try:

  • a particular historical event (Hurricane Katrina, second wave feminism, civil rights movement, Stonewall, tsunami)
  • words like: eyewitness, witness, first hand account, observer, survivor, oral history, interview, testimony, testimonio
  • an identity (women, queer, trans, japanese)
  • a topic or theme
  • a location (city, state, country)
  • a time period / sort by date.
