Answers to Exit Ticket Questions

Answers to Exit Ticket Questions

What if I need a book or article that the UT Libraries doesn't have?

  • Interlibrary loan is a free service where we get articles, chapters, whole books, etc. from other libraries for you. Just submit your request and if it is an article or chapter, you'll get a pdf in your email within a few days. If it is a whole book, we'll let you know when it has arrived and you can come pick it up from any library location you choose. You can use this for academic work and for your own reading.

Questions about noodletools, citing sources in APA, paraphrasing, etc.

  • There are tutorials and FAQs to help you learn how to use NoodleTools linked from the Manage and Cite sources page of the course research guide and you can also reach out to me if you need help.
  • There is an "avoiding plagairism" tutorial on that same page that talks about paraphrasing and here is a helpful handout from the University Writing Center.  You can also schedule a consultation at the Writing Center for help with all aspects of your writing.
  • NoodleTools is one option that the Libraries recommends for citing and managing sources. You can use other services as well. Make sure to doublecheck the citation to make sure it is correct. I wouldn't recommend using ChatGPT to format citations, though. It just doesn't do it very well at this point.
  • Someone asked for a citation examples and to know more about APA format, the style guide most used in the social sciences. All of that, and more, is on the Psychology Research Guide.

How can I easily figure out if an author is credible?

  • Google them to find out what their background and expertise is.
  • Peer-reviewed articles often list the universities and research centers authors are affilitated with and you can click on the author's name in the database to see what else they've written.
  • If you can't find out anything about an author, it would be better to find another source.
  • Ask me or another librarian to help you!
