Evaluate sources for authority and credibility

Evaluate authority no matter where you are searching

No matter what you are looking at and where you found it, it is important to question the authority of the author and publication:

  • Who wrote this and is he or she an expert? How do you know they are an expert?
  • Where was this published and what is the reputation of this publication? Does it carry a specific viewpoint shared by its subscribers? Who is the audience for this publication?
  • Who paid for this source to be published? Who funded the research being done?
  • Is the information presented current enough for your purposes?

Evaluation is a perfect question for a librarian
