Finding Information in Books

Finding Books

Books bring together research into handy compilations.  Two important tools for finding books on topics of interest are:

Keyword Searching & Subject Searching

Keyword searching ("Any Field" searching) in the library catalog --- and with help from Google Books --- is a good way to start searching.  Subject headings for the materials you find from searches in the library catalog can give you ideas for other books on the topics.

You can do subject searches for specific topics, like the examples below (results vary):

City planning -- France – Paris  or  City planning -- Denmark -- Copenhagen

Transportation -- France -- Paris  or  Transportation -- Denmark -- Copenhagen Metropolitan Area

Urban renewal -- France -- Paris -- History  or  Urban renewal -- Denmark

subject contains: sustainability cities

Transportation -- Planning

Important note:  Unfortunately, some of the e-books lack subject headings, so remember that this is just one approach, along with other strategies.
