The University of Texas at Austin Libraries (UTL) aims to improve open access publishing and more generally broad access to scholarly resources. One of the ways UTL does this is to enter into agreements with publishers that push the boundary of traditional pay to access models. Our agreements and support options are complex and subject to change. Several of the current open access publishing deals that may be of interest to scientists are listed on this page. For more information, please see the related guides section.
Note 4-5-2023: PLOS has made some changes to their interface that may temporarily make it seem as though UT Austin corresponding authors need to pay an APC for publishing with a PLOS journal - you do not. If you have any questions about this process, please contact Colleen Lyon - contact info in the upper right.
UT Libraries (UTL) has an agreement with PLOS that includes unlimited open access (OA) publishing for UT Austin corresponding authors in all PLOS journals. In order to qualify for the fee free publishing with PLOS, your article must be accepted for publication on or after 3/1/2023, and you'll need to identify the University of Texas at Austin as your institution during the submission process.
Here is some brief information about what the steps to OA publication look like:
