The Theory and Practice of Digitization Program

Session #1: Defining Terms

Agenda

Session #1 serves as an introduction to each other and the program, as well as our first foray into the theory and practice of digitization. This first meeting is where we will be discussing terms/definitions/concepts, and reflecting on the following:

  • What are special collections? Archives?
  • What is digitization? Post-custodialism?
  • Do these terms make sense for our context? How to modify to do better work/serve communities better?

Our guest speakers are Rachel E. Winston, Black Diaspora Archivist and Beth Dodd, Curator at The Alexander Architectural Archives.

We’ll also cover the plan for the semester and the culminating symposium.
