Uploading and Organizing Content

Uploading and Organizing Content

You can begin creating your story. You can change your story’s title and description at any time. Here you will find input fields for a StoryMap title, optional subtitle, and byline (this is auto-populated with your profile name and editable).

Design Settings:

  • You can change the overall look of your StoryMap by clicking on “Design” in the top menu near your profile thumbnail. In the “Design” sidebar, you are able to:

    • Change the cover’s layout: Full, Side-by-side, Minimal

    • Add or remove a “credits” section at the end of your StoryMap

    • Modify the theme’s background and text color

You have the option to add background media to the cover. Be sure to select something that will work well with the title text.

  • Select “Add cover image or video.”
  • You can upload content from your computer by selecting “Browse your files.”
  • Or you can upload content using a link, as seen below:

ArcGIS StoryMaps gives you multiple design options to personalize your story. Select “Design” for options.

You can preview your StoryMap at any point by selecting “Preview.”

Click the “+” icon. This palette gives you the following options to sets of options.

  • The first is basic: “text,” “button,” “separator,” “code,” “table.”

  • The second set is map: “map,” “image,” “video,” and “swipe.”

  • The third option is immersive: “slideshow,” “sidecar,” and “map tour.”

Button:

“Button” allows you to visually highlight text or link, drawing your viewers' attention.

Separator:

“separator” helps you separate your text into parts.

Code:

Select “code” to enter a code for your viewers, if applicable.

Table:

 You can create a table.

Images:

Keep adding to your story by selecting “image.” You can upload an image from your computer or one from the web. Ensure that the images you are uploading to your StoryMap are free from copyright issues

Swipe:

The “swipe” feature lets you compare two maps or images with an interactive slider. Upload your map/image from your laptop or the web.

Here’s an example of what that might look like.
