UTL-iSchool Mentor Progam
UT Libraries - iSchool Mentor Program
What is it?
This one semester mentor program is between UT Libraries and the iSchool in which librarians are paired with iSchool graduate students. You are paired with a librarian in your area of interest (metadata, instruction, liaison, administration, marketing, collections, reference and so on). You will meet 3 times over the semester, either virtually or in-person. You will choose activities, such as: attending job interviews, meeting other librarians, job shadowing, discussing job postings, talking about iSchool course work or learning about professional associations.
Who is eligible?
We typically work with graduate students in the second or third semester.
Who are we matched with?
We’re best at matching students who want to work in academic libraries, but we have matched students with public librarians, school librarians or with those who wish to specialize in data or film.
Why should we participate?
Students who have questions, who want to see what day to day work in a librarian role, or who are unclear about how to apply for jobs, or get involved with the profession, can benefit the most. It’s not about getting a job at UT Libraries. It is about learning about libraries like UT and understanding the kind of work that goes on.
What if I have questions?
Contact meryl.brodsky@austin.utexas.edu. She's the liaison librarian for the School of Information and she will be happy to help. Or if you just want to meet once to ask a few questions, contact Meryl to set up an appointment.
