Understanding geospatial data is key to unlocking the potential of GIS technologies, which are increasingly used in research across all disciplines. This workshop is intended for absolute beginners, but may be useful refresher for more advanced users. We will introduce core concepts like data types, data sources, file formats, and coordinate systems. We will also discuss a variety of open-source and proprietary software platforms, and share some examples of practical applications.
