This guide will provide instructions on using Omeka through the University of Texas at Austin to build an exhibit based on our experiences at the Architecture and Planning Library. Here at APL, we have migrated three exhibits from Drupal 6 so far, have built a new exhibit from scratch, and are working on migrating more content over from our old website. We've found Omeka to be an easy-to-use platform for building and customizing our digital exhibits. Our website, University of Texas Libraries Architecture Exhibitions, has been built using Omeka.net through the UT Libraries. We maintain control over the style and content of the site and our exhibits.
We hope to use Omeka to highlight our collections, as well as those of the Alexander Architectural Archives. The customization options, imports, and exhibit design can be a bit tricky to navigate at first, but Omeka is very user-friendly and hopefully this guide will help make the process easier.
