Initiatives
Students and their faculty advisors in the US and in developing nations are invited to join YouthMappers, an international university consortium on Mapping for Resilience. The consortium organizes a global community of learners, researchers, educators, and scholars to create and use open geographic data that directly address locally defined development challenges worldwide.
Each year, disasters around the world kill nearly 100,000 and affect or displace 200 million people. Many of the places where these disasters occur are literally 'missing' from any map and first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts. Missing Maps is an open, collaborative project in which you can help to map areas where humanitarian organizations are trying to meet the needs of vulnerable people.
Tomnod is partnering with USA for UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, to use the power of satellite imagery and machine learning to improve shelter and protection for refugees living in camps around the world. This campaign maps 40 camps in Niger, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Cameroon.
ESRI's Crowd Source Reporter has been reconfigured and re-branded for use by the United States Forest Service as Talking Points Collaborative Mapping (TPCM). The TPCM application provides unique spatial and learning capabilities for receiving, analyzing, reporting and integrating public comments and photos.
