Finding Homer in the PCL Stacks

The Perry-Castañeda Library (PCL) holds many translations through time in the main stacks. (What are "the stacks"? It's the part of the library with the books and shelves!)

You have two options for finding English translations of The Odyssey:

  1. Browse the call number range PA 4025.
    • The PCL is organized by the Library of Congress cataloging system. Library of Congress assigns each book a unique call number in a combination of letters and numbers.
    • English translations of The Odyssey are in the call number range PA 4025.
    • Use the PCL Floor Map & Stacks Guide to find this range.
  2. Search the library catalog to identify translations, then use the information in the catalog to find the book of your choice.
    • Use this guide to Finding Books to run a successful catalog search.
    •  Gina recommends using the Advanced Search settings in the catalog and limiting your search to Author/Creator and Title.
    • You can also limit your results to just books at the PCL using facets on the left margin.

It's easy to check out a book! Once you find the translation you like in the stacks, bring it to the PCL Check Out Desk and show the staff your UT ID card. Your ID card is your library card. Staff can answer any questions you have about borrowing books.
