This section highlights resources focused on advancing Indigenous health through research, advocacy, culturally grounded care, and traditional knowledge and healing practices. These resources support community-driven initiatives and emphasize the importance of culturally respectful collaboration in addressing the health needs of Indigenous populations.

Organizations & Health Advocacy

Johns Hopkins Center for Indigenous Health
"JHCIH is committed to promoting Indigenous health equity through evidence-based public health programs, education initiatives, innovative research, policy advocacy and the dissemination of proven programs tailored to community needs. We have over 280 team members, over 80% of whom are Indigenous, and are committed to respect and excellence in public health partnerships."

OSU Center for Indigenous Health Research and Policy
Established by Dr. Valarie Blue Bird Jernigan in January 2019. "The CIHRP supports health equity for Indigenous people by conducting population health research, implementing culturally-appropriate interventions, developing and launching health sciences training specializing in Indigenous health using culturally-grounded frameworks, and fostering long-term relationships with university and community partners."

IREACH
“The Institute for Research and Education to Advance Community Health (IREACH) is a large research institute at Washington State University (WSU) that conducts transdisciplinary research devoted to promoting health and health care equity among Indigenous and rural populations.”

Indian Health Service
"The Indian Health Service, an agency within the Department of Health and Human Services, is responsible for providing federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. Includes resources for patients, providers and a map of healthcare providers."

NIH: Tribal Consultations
“With an emphasis on trust, respect, and shared responsibility, Tribal Consultation is a formal process for open and free exchange of information. At NIH, it’s a foundational opportunity for our scientific community to listen and learn from Tribal leaders, and respectfully consider the knowledge, priorities, concerns, history, and culture of Tribal Nations prior to developing NIH research priorities, policies, and programs".

NIH: Tribal Health Research Office (THRO)
"The NIH Tribal Health Research Office (THRO) was established in 2015 to ensure meaningful input from and collaboration with Tribal Nations on NIH policies, programs, and priorities. It is the central point of contact at NIH for federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) Tribes throughout the U.S. and the coordination hub for Tribal health research activities at NIH."

National Indian Health Board
"The national organization that represents Tribal governments. Their website communicates links to toolkits, guidelines, and ongoing research on various topics such as oral health, zika, diabetes, methamphetamine, suicide, etc."

Rural Tribal Health
"Resources in this guide provide specific information on tribal health, including disparities, healthcare, services, wellness, and workforce needs, as well as funding sources and tools that can be used to help improve healthcare for AI/AN people"

Urban Indian Health Institute 
"Urban Indian Health Institute is decolonizing data to ensure that Native communities have access to accurate data that better reflects the unique cultures, traditions, and health needs of urban Indian communities."

National Resource Center on Native American Aging
"The National Resource Center on Native American Aging (NRCNAA) seeks to identify and increase awareness of evolving Native Elder health and social issues. NRCNAA is supported by a cooperative agreement with the Administration for Community Living (ACL), Department of Health and Human Services."

National Indigenous Elder Justice Initiative 
“We help people and programs figure out how to competently and effectively access and serve Native American elders.  We work to advance both knowledge and practice, and promote engagement at all levels – national, regional, and local.“

Native American Health Center (NAHC)
"Caring for the Bay Area since 1972, NAHC has worked at local, state, and federal levels to deliver resources and services for the urban Native community. As an Urban Indian Health Project through our relationship with the Indian Health Service (IHS), we are dedicated to providing high quality medical, dental, behavioral health, community wellness, and social service programs."

Association of American Indian Physicians
"The Association of American Indian Physicians maintains its headquarters in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; however, educational forums, workshops and conferences are hosted throughout the year in different regions of the United States."

Centers for American Indian & Alaska Native Health
“The Centers for American Indian and Alaska Native Health (CAIANH) was established in 1986 and is the largest, most comprehensive, and longest standing program of its kind in the country. Our mission is to promote the health and well-being of American Indians and Alaska Natives, of all ages, by pursuing research, training, continuing education, technical assistance, and information dissemination within a biopsychosocial framework that recognizes the unique cultural contexts of this special population. “

Seven Directions: A Center for Indigenous Public Health
"Indigenous Peoples are the original architects of wellness systems – ways of life that kept us and our environment healthy. We prioritize Indigenous knowledge and traditional practices to improve community health. We seek opportunities to integrate cultural beliefs and practices into public health and health care services."

The Archive of Healing

Tribal Epidemiology Centers

Tribal Epidemiology Centers (TECs) work in partnership with Native American communities, Tribes, Tribal communities, Tribal Organizations, and urban Indian organizations to improve the health and well-being of Native people by offering culturally appropriate approaches to epidemiologic and public health support.
