This assignment asks students to evaluate sources to use for their research (customize the number of sources you ask students to evaluate). Students are asked to cite the source, identify the source type, discuss the purpose, examine the credibility of the author, discuss the accuracy of the information, and discuss currency.
When using this assignment, faculty or librarians should provide instruction about how to evaluate sources. Use the accompanying rubric to assess how students performed and revisit any gaps you discover as it takes practice to develop this level of critical thinking. Versions of this assignment have been used as a standalone assignment and as one step in a research project scaffolded over the semester.
