UT Austin Repositories

UT Support for Repositories

Through membership in the Texas Digital Library (TDL), UT Libraries provides support for both a documents open access repository, Texas ScholarWorks (TSW), and a data repository, Texas Data Repository (TDR). Both are provided as a free service to all UT Austin faculty, researchers, staff, and students.

Benefits to using UT repositories

  • The library commits to the long-term preservation of content deposited in TSW, and commits to at least 10 years of access to content deposited in TDR.
  • Each item uploaded gets a digital object identifier (DOI) that makes citing work easier and more persistent.
  • TSW and TDR are indexed by major search engines like Google.
  • Usage data for your uploaded works are available.
  • TDR was purpose-built for data, so it has functionality like version control and access options that are more robust than a typical publications repository.
  • TSW offers a library managed option that frees up your time for other responsibilities.

Texas ScholarWorks

Texas ScholarWorks (TSW) is a publications repository appropriate for articles, technical reports, conference proceedings, posters, theses and dissertations, and more.

TSW was established to provide open, online access to the products of the University's research and scholarship, to preserve those works for future generations, to promote new models of scholarly communication, and to help deepen community understanding of the value of higher education.

Who may upload content to TSW?

Any faculty, researcher, student, or staff member of UT Austin may upload content. Undergraduate students are asked to have faculty sponsorship of their work. While UT Austin community members are welcome to upload content themselves, the Libraries also offers an option to manage the uploading process on behalf of submitters. There is no charge for this library-managed option. Please see the TSW website for a complete list of FAQs

How do I get access to upload?

First, do an initial login to Texas ScholarWorks to establish your identity in the system, and then email tsw@utlists.utexas.edu to request access to upload materials.

Texas Data Repository

Texas Data Repository (TDR) serves as a platform for publishing and archiving the University's research data. It was established to help UT Austin's research community meet data sharing requirements, to facilitate data citation, to promote collaboration, to enable reproducibility, and to encourage reuse.

Who may upload content to TDR?

Any faculty, researcher, student, or staff member of UT Austin may upload content.

How do I get access to upload?

If you want to upload your own data, you just need to login to TDR and you should be able to start uploading materials. If you want to upload to an existing dataset created by someone else, you will need to contact that dataset owner for permission.

For more information about how to upload data and functionality of TDR, please see the User Guide.
