Registering and Voting in Texas

Registration Deadline (Texas): 30 days before an election

Your application has to be received by the voter registrar office in your county by this deadline or postmarked 30 days before the election.

Fill out the registration form online (you will print, sign, and mail it in).

Text "REGISTER" to 48683 to fill out a registration application online and have it mailed to you (TRAVIS COUNTY).

Voting ID

You need one of these forms of ID to vote in Texas (exceptions are listed in this FAQ, but are limited):

Texas Driver License issued by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS)
United States Passport (book or card)
Texas Election Identification Certificate issued by DPS
Texas Personal Identification Card issued by DPS
Texas Handgun License issued by DPS
United States Military Identification Card containing the person’s photograph
United States Citizenship Certificate containing the person’s photograph

Rules about voting as a UT Student
YOU can choose if you want to vote at your address in Austin or if you want to vote at a permanent address (where your parent/guardian lives). Remember, if you don't vote in person in Austin, you need time to get an absentee ballot, and you can only register and vote in one place.
Registering to vote in Texas
You can't register online in Texas. Texas Votes can have one of their members register you to vote or you can have one mailed to you), or fill out the form online, print, sign it, and mail it in.
Information for Texas Voters with Disabilities
If you have a disability, you may vote early by mail, or you may receive accommodation (including assistance or curbside voting) to vote in person.

Many states allow online registration - check the process for your state here. If you will be in Austin for election day but chose to register at your "home" address, don't forget to request an absentee ballot.
