Covid Updates: UT Libraries

Spaces & Services through January 30, 2022

Information for January 31

All branch locations and all floors of PCL will reopen on January 31 and observe regular spring semester hours.

HathiTrust books you are accessing electronically while stacks and branches are closed will no longer be available electronically on January 31. To ensure your reading is uninterrupted, you may use Pick it Up in the Library Catalog to have those books sent to any library location. If you need 3 chapters or less, you may request those through Get a Scan. You may make those requests beginning the afternoon of Friday, January 27.

Spaces & Services

PCL Hours (all other locations closed through January 30)

  • The entry level of PCL is the only open Libraries location through January 30, with a maximum capacity of 800 people. On January 31, all floors of PCL and all Libraries locations are scheduled to reopen on a regular spring semester schedule. See UT Libraries hours.

Collections Access, Borrowing and Returning Materials

  • Through January 30, all eligible materials in any Libraries location must be requested through Pick it Up (request and recall). Items can be picked up from the PCL Desk, or from a branch location beginning January 31. The Pick it Up service is available to UT students, faculty and staff and courtesy borrowers.
  • HathiTrust Emergency Temporary Access will provide online access to much of our print collection through January 30. If an item in our print collection is available in HathiTrust, it will not be available for check out. Please note that HathiTrust access is limited to UT faculty, staff and students. For more information, see our HathiTrust page.
  • All course materials requested by faculty for the spring 2022 semester are available at the PCL Desk through January 30. Use the Library Catalog to confirm availability and location.
  • Interlibrary Loan and Get a Scan services are available. Through January 30, all ILS items will be available for pick up at the PCL Desk. If you would like to pick up your ILS item from a branch library after January 30, please send a request to ilsreq@lib.utexas.edu to have your item transferred from PCL to the location of your choice.
  • PCL and Engineering book returns are open.

Spaces

  • Open study space is available on the entry level of PCL, including the UFCU Room and the Learning Labs.

FAQs

Why did I get an email saying the hold I had on a book was cancelled even though the date to pick it up hadn't passed?

We had to cancel the hold because the book is available in HathiTrust as part of our Emergency Temporary Access. You can find a link to the digital copy of the book in our Library Catalog but the terms of our HathiTrust ETAS agreement state that we cannot check out print versions of books that are available digitally through HathiTrust. If you need help locating the digital copy, please Ask a Librarian.
