Be aware that when you are first starting research, scholarship can be daunting. You don't yet know what people are arguing about.
Also keep in mind that you may be researching something very current - it hasn't been dealt with in the scholarship yet.
Before you head into these databases, you often need an arsenal of keywords - themes, etc. that you want to investigate. You get those keywords from encyclopedias and reviews.
MANY of you will do just fine with using the limiters on our www.lib.utexas.edu search.
Some of you will benefit from a narrower and more focused set of sources to search within.
