Will I need to create a new account in the new system?
Will there be any changes to services during the migration to the new system?
I have saved lists of items in my account in the current Library Catalog. What will happen to these?
I have preferred searches set up in my account in the current Library Catalog. What will happen to these?
I have a list of all the items I checked out in my account because I selected the My Reading History option in the current Library Catalog. What will happen to this list?
In addition, the new search tools system does not have a Reading History feature. Instead, you will only be able to see items you've returned until someone else checks them out.
For how long will I be able to check out books?
I use the search box on the Libraries home page. Will that still be available?
Yes. You will still be able to use the search box on the Libraries home page to search across many of our physical and electronic resources at once. Because this search box will be powered by our new system, you will have more robust and reliable links to online full text.
How will this new search tools system impact the speed of searches?
The new system will return search results more quickly.
Will I still be able to search the library catalog?
You will still be able to search the library catalog for physical and electronic holdings, as you do now. Options include searching by keyword, title, author/creator, subject heading, ISBN/ISSN, and other advanced identifiers. You will also be able to limit by library location, resource type, language, and date.
Will I still be able to search specific databases?
Yes. There is no change to individual database searching.
Will I still be able to see books available at the Law Library using the new search tools system?
In order to see what is at the Law Library, you will have to search their catalog directly at https://tallons.law.utexas.edu/. UT students, faculty and staff may still continue to borrow materials from the Law Library.
I have saved links to resources in my reference manager (ex: Zotero, EndNote), my Canvas page or elsewhere. I got these links from the current Library Catalog or by using the search box on the Libraries home page. Will they still work?
The links will no longer work after the fall semester ends. Beginning January 7, 2020, you will be able to create new links by searching for the items in the new search tools system. Look for the permalink symbol () to find a stable link to the resource.
