Classes:
Learning Labs may be requested by faculty/instructors for up to two meetings of a course per semester. Requests will be considered if the Learning Labs technology will be used to facilitate collaboration, not simply presentation; or for faculty/instructors needing space to help students work with the print collections in PCL.
Events:
Events in the Learning Commons must further the purpose of the Learning Commons (to support student academic success and advance teaching and research) and be open to campus. A maximum of two events per host will be considered. Event hosts, who must be UT-Austin faculty or staff, are responsible for all aspects of their event, such as advertising, set up and clean up. A library staff member will arrange to train you on the Learning Labs technology. On demand technical support during events is not available.
Study and Review Sessions:
The Learning Labs are not reservable for study or review sessions.
Meetings of Student Organizations:
The Learning Labs are not reservable for meetings of student organizations. The Dean of Students office can help student organizations find meeting spaces.
Staff Training and Conferences:
Use of Learning Labs for staff trainings and conferences will only be considered during intersessions.
Other considerations:
Because the Learning Labs are also used as open student collaborative study space, we consider reservation requests based on the criteria described above and the impact on students. We will not reserve more than one learning lab at a time for an event, nor consider multi-day events outside of intersession. When reviewing requests, we also take the time of the semester and the number of existing reservations into account.
What you can expect:
We cannot consider requests received with less than two weeks notice. Additional information about your request may be needed and you will hear from library staff with further questions. Please be very specific about how you will use the technology and the Learning Lab in order to expedite requests. Before your reservation, you will need to meet with a library staff member to learn how to use the technology, which should take no more than 30 minutes. There is no on-demand technical support available. There is no support in the Libraries for set up or clean up of the Learning Labs. It is up to the reserver to move any tables and chairs and clean up after a class or event.
