The OER Working Group brings together staff, faculty, and students affiliated with UT Austin who share an interest in advancing the awareness, adoption, and/or creation of open educational resources (OER) on campus.
This group meets monthly, with additional meetings as needed to accomplish specific tasks or initiatives identified by the group. Non-members are also welcome to join the monthly group meetings as they wish; please contact heather.walter@austin.utexas.edu to inquire about upcoming agendas or invitations.
Activities of the group include:
Planning & delivering professional development, including workshops and training, for faculty and staff on topics related to OER
Creating programs to support or incentivize faculty in the adoption or creation of OER
Outreach to campus partners and faculty, including tabling and presentations
Developing proposals for campus policy to support the adoption or creation of OER
Partnering with student leaders and activists to advocate for greater OER adoption on campus
Other tasks and initiatives as identified by the group, including occasional initiatives focused on other types of free and affordable course materials
Group members commit to initial two-year terms on the working group, with the option to renew for one-year periods after that as desired. The average time commitment fluctuates depending on the current initiatives of the group, but it is typically less than 5 hours per month.
We invite new members to join us every 6 months. If you are interested in joining the group, please contact Heather Walter at heather.walter@austin.utexas.edu
