Access the Library After Graduation

What's Available After Graduation

Still Want to use the Library?

There are several ways you can continue to use library resources and access the information you need after graduation..

Graduating in the spring?

Hold on to your student ID card. Spring graduates retain privileges through the summer. These privileges include:

  • regular student check-out privileges
  • access to interlibrary loan services
  • access to most UT Libraries electronic resources
  • use of study rooms, carrels. or lockers under the same guidelines that apply to enrolled students
  • online renewal

Your privileges will remain active until the 12th day of classes in the fall semester.

Fall graduate?

Unfortunately, your library privileges will end at the start of spring semester.

What happens to my resource lists after I graduate?

To ensure you have access to any items you have saved in your UT Libraries Search account or in the Libraries' subscription databases, be sure to export those items before you graduate.

The search tool and many databases have options for exporting records. These may include:

  • exporting to RIS or BibTex - this option lets you upload your ciations into a citation manager. See Comparing Citation Managers to help you choose one that you can maintain after graduation.
  • exporting to CSV or Excel
  • email - this is not recommended for long lists because the format is often dense and difficult to read

Use database help pages and the Libraries Search help guide for information about exporting citations.

NoodleTools

The NoodleTools account made available through the UT Libraries will no longer be available after you graduate. You have a few options:

Zotero and EndNote

  • Zotero is a free, open source tool and there will be no changes to your saved citations and notes.
  • This chart explains what happens to different versions of EndNote, including automatic conversion to an EndNote Basic account.
