The current environment in academic publishing encourages sharing:
- And we expect it to be a requirement when accepting federal funding. Part of being an ethical author is following requirements (or guidelines) for making data and findings available. This includes meeting the deadlines set by the funder or publisher.
- With more research findings and data deposited in "open" repositories and in open-access publications, even when not required.
See the Unversity Libraries Guide on Open Access for much more information on open access.

The Libraries support the open sharing and preservation of your work through Texas ScholarWorks and the Texas Data Repository:
- Texas ScholarWorks - Texas ScholarWorks was established to provide open, online access to the products of the University's research and scholarship. The interface can be challenging but deposit of your work --- as allowed by copyright --- is encouraged.
- Texas Data Repository - The Texas Data Repository is a platform for publishing and archiving datasets (and other data products) created by faculty, staff, and students at Texas higher education institutions. The repository is built in an open-source application called Dataverse, Also, there may be a repository specific to your area of research that will be a better match for your data. See more from the Libraries here.
