This guide will get you started with the UT Libraries Catalog. Feel confident with searching? Check out our How to Find Books page.
Follow this link to reach this search page:
Enter your search term, hit enter, then make sure “Library Catalog” is selected from the drop down menu on the right. This narrows your search to books we have at the Libraries.
Your search results should look something like this:
Be sure to explore the filters on the left side of the page-- they help narrow your search and make finding what you want much easier.
When you click on a book, a page like this one will come up. You can click the arrows to the left to move up or down in the results list. This view shows you the book’s availability, description, location, and more. In this example, you can read this book online or you can request to pick it up at one of our Libraries.
If you scroll all the way down, you’ll see Virtual Browse. This tool allows you to see what books are next to this one on the shelves– it’s great for browsing and discovering new reads!
Sometimes when browsing science fiction books you’ll see a book available at the Harry Ransom Center (HRC):
“Library Use Only” means that the book cannot leave the HRC. You can still read it in their Reading Room: just click the HRC Request link, make an account, and follow the instructions they have there.
Check out the Find Books in the UT Libraries page to learn more about requesting a book for pick up, finding it on our shelves, or checking out an ebook.
Questions about borrowing? See the Borrow, Renew & Return page on our website.
