Finding research within your discipline

Search strategies for finding research in your discipline

All in one search on UT Library Website

After you enter your keywords, you will see a left side menu that allows you to refine. If you are looking for scholarly research articles, I recommend that you limit to Available Online and Peer Reviewed. You can also explore Subjects as limiters to ensure you are getting somethign within your discipline. Use the advanced search if you want a more specific search.

this shows you how to use the left side menu to refine results by subject, peer review status and avaiobility online

Why am I looking at a research article?

Reading a research article in your field will help you:

  • Learn more about what is considered good evidence in that field and how authors support their arguments
  • Learn more about funding - is there a funding acknowledgement anywhere in the article or a conflict of interest claim?
  • Understand how the scholarly conversation plays out in a research article - how are scholars in this discipline in dialog with one another?
