Finding Data

Data Databases

These are databases you have access to through UT. They provide access to data and data sets. Each presents it in different ways.

WARNING: Make a point to read the information regarding access. For some of them, you will need to request an account to gain access.

Data Sources:

  • Data is Plural
    • This is a newsletter that is sent out weekly of fun and serious datasets.
  • Google Data Search
    • Similar to a regular Google search, you can use keywords to find datasets from around the world on a variety of topics. Some of these may not be accessible due to paywalls. But if you find something, you can double-check if it's available through UTL.
  • Registry of Research Data Repositories - "Re3data.org helps researchers find repositories to access and store data from a range of disciplines."
  • Open Access Data Repository - Part of the larger project, the Open Access Directory is a list of OA data sources organized by topic.
  • Harvard Dataverse - "The Harvard Dataverse Repository is a free data repository open to all researchers from any discipline, both inside and outside of the Harvard community, where you can share, archive, cite, access, and explore research data."

National Weather Service NOWdata for Austin/San Antonio, TX
  • Data tool for accessing climate data for Texas. You can narrow it down by product (ex., daily data for a month or monthly summarized data), the date, and variable, depending on what you're looking for. Also has pretty good helper text.
