EndNote offers two different versions of a free, "basic" version of the product. Additionally, EndNote online for desktop users (part of the paid software package) is similar to the other two online products, though with more features. See a table comparing features of the various EndNote web/online versions here.
For all three online/basic versions, the software:
- Works as a web-based, stand-alone citation product.
- But with fewer features than regular EndNote.
1. Paid EndNote online for desktop (premium) users have access to EndNote online and may use it, for example, when working on projects with others or when working away from the user's main computer.
2. EndNote online with WoS is similar to EndNote Basic (an entirely free product) with some helpful extra features. It is free to those of us at UT-Austin:
- To sign up, you have three options:
a. Go to Web of Science, on or off campus, and select "EndNote" from the PRODUCTS option at the top right.

b. START on a computer on campus. Go to Myendnoteweb.com and sign up. Once signed up, you won't be limited to on-campus use.
c. EndNote is from the same company as the Web of Science and if you have a Web of Science account, you may use it at Myendnoteweb.com.
3. EndNote Basic is a free version of the EndNote software that:
- Is available to everyone --- if you are currently affiliated with UT-Austin, you won't need to use this version: Register and Sign in at Myendnoteweb.com.
