EndNote

Getting Started

EndNote is a commercially developed and maintained product.  That means that there is a charge to buy the desktop version of the software (the less sophisticated web version, EndNote Basic/Online, is free) but also that Clarivate, the company behind the software, provides user guides and help.

  • Desktop. EndNote is designed as a desktop product, with a mobile option.  If you are away from your desktop access to EndNote, you may log in to the EndNote Online for desktop users and collect citations which can be transferred to your EndNote library via the EndNote Sync process.  Sign up through your desktop software and then log in at myendnoteweb.com.

EndNote frequently releases new versions.  Look for the notes specific to your version. Images in this guide are mostly for the EndNote 20 version.
