The program provides recent graduates, mid-career alums and former students of Historically Black Colleges and Universities with full-year, salaried fellowships with full benefits in the areas of reporting, audience engagement and news product and technology.

The fellowship offers aspiring journalists a two-year educational program that prepares them for careers as credible, non-partisan reporters in the nation’s capital or wherever their work may take them.

The Ben Bagdikian Fellowship Program offers a crash course in investigative journalism. Fellows at Mother Jones dive deep into every aspect of a national multimedia outfit—covering breaking news, assisting and conducting investigations, ensuring accuracy and impact, and seeing from the inside how awards are won. Applications will open in the spring.

The fellowship program is a state-funded program spearheaded by California Senator Steve Glazer to invigorate local news coverage in California. The fellows, who were selected through a highly competitive process, receive salaries for two years from the University of California as well as mentorship, training and other types of professional support.

The Chronicle of Higher Education is seeking two reporting fellows to join our newsroom. The fellowship runs from July 2025 to July 2026. The fellows will work as general-assignment reporters, covering a broad set of issues at the center of the academic enterprise.

Democracy Now! fellowships are full-time, one-year work placements that pay a livable wage and include fully paid medical and dental benefits. The fellowships provide support and mentorship to underrepresented early-career journalists and digital media professionals, including BIPOC, people with disabilities and gender nonconforming people.

The Economic Hardship Reporting Project is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that produces compelling journalism on economic inequality in America. We give grants to independent journalists reporting on issues related to poverty, economic class, workers’ rights, and income disparity in the U.S., and co-publish their work in partnership with major media outlets.

The Education Writers Association’s fellowships provide financial awards to journalists to undertake ambitious reporting projects.

The Ferriss – UC Berkeley Psychedelic Journalism Fellowship offers ten $10,000 reporting grants per year to journalists reporting in-depth print and audio stories on the science, policy, business and culture of this new era of psychedelics.

The Knight-Bagehot Fellowship offers experienced journalists the opportunity to enhance their understanding of business and economics, finance and technology.

The New York Times offers a yearlong program for up-and-coming journalists. The program is designed for journalists with some experience who are early in their careers, including recent college graduates. Those who have more than five years of paid, professional journalism experience should explore other career opportunities at The Times.

PJI is a 10-day residential program. All participants are expected to stay on campus at American University. Transportation, housing and stipends are provided for meals and other expenses to ensure full participation and full benefits of the program.

Report for America is a national service program that places journalists in local newsrooms to report on under-covered issues and communities.

Fellowship periods are 6 months. Fellows are required to work 28 hours a week.

The Trace, America’s only nonprofit newsroom devoted exclusively to covering the gun violence epidemic, is seeking applicants for its editing fellowship. The one-year program is geared toward early- to mid-career journalists who are looking to establish themselves as editors, but have not had the opportunity to pursue editing full time.

Type Investigations is a nonprofit newsroom dedicated to transforming the field of independent investigative journalism. They offer an Ida B. Wells Fellowship for reports of color as well as other fellowships.

The Verite Fellowship is designed for early career journalists who want to spend 12 months learning from a newsroom of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are mentored by our news team to become experts in digital storytelling, social media and audience engagement. They produce real work that is distributed to our readership, and by the end of the 12 months are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. They especially encourage members of traditionally under-represented communities to apply for this position, including women, people of color, LGBTQ people and people who are differently abled.
