International Zine Month

Zines

From Instagram

July is International Zine Month and to celebrate we’ve pulled together a selection of staff favorites, including zines about punk music and art, queer and feminist activism, and cats! If these pique your interest, come visit the 5th floor of the Fine Arts Library to browse our zine collection, this month and every month!

What are zines? Zines are unique do-it-yourself publications used by different cultural groups to share ideas and information while bypassing the bureaucracy and elitism of traditional publishing. Zines have been used by activists, musicians, and artists to share creative works and raise awareness of social issues. These light-to-hold booklets of images and text are cheap to produce and purchase, even fun to trade. People want to know about them, so they go to zine fests, meet the artists, look in libraries and bookstores and learn what can always be said about zines – they are limitless in their formats, subjects, and appeal.
