The GLO's mission is historical preservation, maximizing state revenue, and stewardship of state lands and natural resources.

TNRIS is a state resource that provides high quality historic and current geospatial data products, education and training. It is a division of the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB).

The RRC is the state agency with primary regulatory jurisdiction over the oil and natural gas industry, pipeline transporters, natural gas and hazardous liquid pipeline industry, natural gas utilities, the LP-gas industry, and coal and uranium surface mining operations. (It no longer has any jurisdiction over railroads, despite its name.)

TWDB provides water planning, data collection and dissemination, financial assistance, and technical assistance services to the citizens of Texas.
