International Zine Library Day is celebrated on July 21st of every year. What are zines? Zines (pronounced zeen) are self-published or independently made booklets, either by an individual or within a group. These booklets have roots in the sci-fi fandom and in informal underground publications that focused on social and political activism in the 60’s, eventually making their way to the punk rock circuit.
Nowadays, zines can be about many topics, not limited to art and photography zines, literary zines, social and political zines, music zines, perzines (personal zines), travel zines, and health zines. In the spirit of International Zine Library Day, check out these food recipe zines from the UT Libraries collection.
